The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh on Sunday decided to replace its Khaki shorts with brown trousers in what observers called a move to attract more youth and professionals to the organisation.

However, Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday credited his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi for this change in the RSS dress code.

"Rabri Devi has forced the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh to change its dress," Lalu said on Twitter recalling his wife's statement two months ago questioning the Sangh volunteers wearing shorts.

In January, Rabri had asked elder members of the organisation if they weren’t ashamed to “come out in public wearing half-pants.”

“What type of organisation is the RSS in which even old people wear knickers… don’t they feel ashamed of coming out in public wearing half-pants?,” said Rabri while addressing the 9th triennial open session of the RJD’s national council in Patna.

Reacting to this, BJP had said Rabri Devi is a woman having a mindset of 19th century.

"Not only children, elderly people wear shorts nowadays as part of the latest fashion while going to shopping malls or excursion," Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi had said.
