Amid a political slug fest between Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party over the alleged exodus of Hindu families from Kairana town in western Uttar Pradesh, an MLA of the saffron party has given an 'ultimatum' to the state government to bring them back.

"We are giving an ultimatum to the state administration to bring back the people who left Kairana within 15 days, otherwise no one will be able to stop us," Sangeet Som told reporters at Sardhana village near Kairana town in Shamli district.

Earlier police stopped the 'Nirbhaya yatra' ledy by Som to Kairana where Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed by the administration.

"We are BJP workers and respect law and order. We are not moving ahead as Section 144 has been imposed by the administration but they will not be able to stop us if they fail to bring back the families which have migrated," Som said.

The ruling Samajwadi Party, however, trashed charges of 'exodus' and accused the BJP of vitiating the communal atmosphere in the state ahead of the 2017 Assembly polls.

“There is no exodus in Kairana or anywhere in the state. We have intelligence and other reports in this regard. BJP leaders including Hukum Singh and others are inciting communal passions for political gains as Assembly elections are near,” SP spokesman and senior cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav told reporters.
