Actor-turned-politician Jayasudha quit the Congress and joined the ruling Telugu Desam Party on Saturday. She met party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada.

Jayasudha's migration to TDP is a huge setback to the Congress party ahead of the elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation scheduled to be held on February 2.

Jayasudha proudly announced that it was because of Naidu's efforts that Hyderabad got global recognition. She recalled that she acted in several films opposite TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao and that she had even campaigned for the party in late 1990s.

The actor joined Congress before the 2009 elections and was elected from Secunderabad constituency. She, however, lost the 2014 elections. The 57-year-old, who acted in over 250 films, quit Congress due to differences with the party leaders in the constituency.

It had been reported earlier that the actor also had ideas of joining Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) but finally switched loyalties to the TDP.

This definitely is a shot in the arm for the TDP as she has good following among women as an actor of repute.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders Anam Ramnarayana Reddy and Anam Vivekananda Reddy, popularly known as the Anam Brothers, also joined the TDP. Along with a throng of their supporters, Anam Vivekananda Reddy stated that it was a boon to have a chief minister like Chandrababu as he was working hard for the development of the state.
