Three security personnel killed in twin militant attacks in Srinagar

Army-restrictions-imposed 9File) The attacks come a week after two militants were killed in two separate encounters with the security forces in Shopian and Kupwara districts of Kashmir

Hours after two police personnel were killed in a militant attack on Srinagar’s Zadibal police station, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) post in Tengpora was targeted by the terrorists on Monday, leaving one jawan dead.

Sources said that the rifle of the slain jawan was also taken away by the assailants.

The security forces have now spread in the area and are on the lookout for the assailants. They have cordoned off the area while presence of some armored trucks could also be seen.

“We can’t give you any information on this. It is quite possible that they (attackers) are nearby,” one of the CRPF personnel said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has condemned the attack and assured its cooperation.

“We came to know of this recent attack. It is very unfortunate that police personnel were attacked inside the city. I would like to assure you that the Amry, the police and other agencies are fully prepared to counter any such attacks,” the GOC of Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt General Satish Dua, said.

Earlier, Assistant Police Inspector Nazeer Ahmed and Constable Bashir Ahmed were killed in the attack. Two other cops are said to be critical.

This comes a week after two militants were killed in two separate encounters with the security forces in Shopian and Kupwara districts of Kashmir.
