A 17-year-old girl succumbed to burn injuries after she was allegedly set ablaze by her stalker with the help of his brother in Eluru town of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.
According to media reports, the victim, identified as Pidala Indumathi (17), was being stalked by the accused, Vikky, who lived in the same neighbourhood.
The accused has been stalking the victim, a plus two student, for some time, because of which she had even stopped going to classes.
Media reports suggest that on Friday, when Vikky entered into the premises of the girls house, her father and brother manhandled him. Following this, the accused, who belongs to Scheduled Caste community, lodged a complaint under SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. However, her father Satyanarayana too filed a complaint, accusing Vikky of harassing his daughter.
Later, the accused and his brother Pedababu barged into the house of the victim and set her on fire. Although she was rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries after a few hours.
There has also been reports that the doctor who treated the girl told the police that the victim had told him that she set herself ablaze after her family members blamed her for being stalked.
Further investigation is under way and the accused are yet to be nabbed.
