A Kerala court sentenced businessman Mohammed Nisham to life imprisonment for running down security guard Chandra Bose with his car in a fit of rage. He has also been sentenced to another 24 years in prison.
The court, on Wednesday, had found him guilty of the charges. He is also asked to pay a fine of Rs 80 lakh of which Rs 50 lakh will be given to the family members of the victim.
The prosecution had argued that the crime was 'rarest of the rare' and sought death sentence for the accused and demanded Rs 5 crore as fine.
Nisham rammed his Hummer vehicle into 47-year-old Chandra Bose on December 29, 2014, and also beat him up. Bose was working as a security guard in a posh residential complex.
After battling for life for 48 days at a hospital, Bose succumbed to his injuries on February 15, last year.
The Kerala government had announced a government job for Bose's wife.
Owner of the Kings Group of Companies, Nisham courted controversy after his seven-year-old son's photograph driving his car was put up on social media. In another case, he allegedly abused a woman police official for checking his vehicle.
