Three months after drunk driving claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl, Hyderabad witnessed a similar incident that left a five-year-old girl in ventilator support on Sunday
According to media reports, Sanjana, along with her mother Sridevi, was crossing the road when a Hyundai Santro, allegedly driven by a drunken software engineer mowed them down. The incident took place at Pedda Amberpet near Hayathnagar in Hyderabad.
Hospital authorities confirmed that the girl suffered grievous head injuries and multiple fractures. Sridevi, too, is in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Venkatramana, and two of his friends were consuming alcohol in the vehicle, according to eyewitness accounts. The trio fled the scene after the accident, leaving behind the vehicle. However, they surrendered before the police on Monday.
The police recovered alcohol bottles from the vehicle, corroborating eyewitness accounts that the driver and the others were under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place.
Sanjana's elder sister Pravallika escaped unhurt as she had already crossed the road after alighting from her school bus.
