A recent TripBarometer1 study by TripAdvisor has predicted that four out of five Indian travelers will plan to undertake a new travel activity in 2016. The study said that 44 per cent Indian travellers have plans to increase their travel budget next year vs 33 per cent of global travellers and 82 per cent Indian travellers vs 69 per cent of global travellers have plans to try something new in 2016.
According to the study Indians voted for wildlife safari, cruise and adventure travel as the ‘top new’ activities to try in 2016 and smartphone beat toiletries as number one travel essential as 86 per cent of Indian travellers won’t leave home without it. Interestingly, the study also claims that Indians were amongst the top five best dressed nationalities while on a holiday.
Commenting on the findings, the TripAdvisor India Country Manager, Nikhil Ganju, who was in Bengaluru recently, said “Indian travellers thinking of a holiday as a reward that their family deserves is just the right kind of sentiment to be moving into 2016. As mobile dependent Indian travellers also grow more demanding in their expectations from accommodations, the vast majority of hoteliers in India exhibit a positive outlook and are optimistic about profitability in the coming year,"
The study has ranked India at 18th, on the list of global travel budget, with an estimated average travel budget of $ 3107, compared to the global average travel spend of $5,100. As far as the most important amenities are concerned, 63 per cent of Indian travellers wanted their accommodation to have air conditioning, followed by breakfast, room service and in-room WiFi in that order.
